ME!ME!ME!
Holy shit, so I just watched ME!ME!ME! and I got pretty captivated by the music video. It had a good mix of sexiness and surrealism which got me hooked. There's also a lot of interpretations online of what the meaning behind it is. What I thought of it as:
A guy who is addicted to the otaku culture and in the beginning it's all fun and pleasure. Then the coloring completely shifts which I assumed meant his hobby was growing more disturbing as he becomes more immersed into 2D. He's completely crushed by breasts, forgetting about the real world, but a picture of his girlfriend showed up before. He snaps back into reality which is then invaded by the 2D girl who proceeds to vomit inside the guy's mouth. I can only assume she was letting out endorphins (fun/addiction) into him. He then sees his girlfriend crying, he attempts to go to her, but ends up walking away which she begs not to. Maybe they had a fight over what he was doing with his life, but he couldn't resolve it and went to escape to the 2D world. Now his insides are slowly being eaten by the 2D girl which dashes off when his girlfriend approaches him. His girlfriend kisses/resuscitates him, which makes him recall all the fond memories of her. He decides to stand up and fight against his hobbies. At first he does well fending off at the start, but as the battle goes on, there's a swirling cyclone of despair which takes his arm, and girlfriend away from him ever so weakening him. Now his girlfriend is captive to the 2D girl. It's a choice between losing her or winning against his addiction. Then an army of other 2D girls completely overwhelm him and tears him apart. At the end, the original 2D girl kisses his torn body which he has no choice but to accept the comfort of. He falls, then opens his eyes and the video restarts to the beginning.
Okay so I think I over analyzed this, but the whole vibe of addiction and escapism I felt from this video hit me. The guy tried to fight it, but lost and consequently lost his girlfriend in the process. Now he's trapped in this infinite loop of depression, false relief, and reminiscence. For all I know, I could be completely wrong about it. I definitely would like to find the translated lyrics whenever it is released. Anyways, it's definitely a cool video worth checking out.
PS - Oh yah something I forgot to mention was why the 2D girl had the same face as his girlfriend. I think it could've been because the addiction was giving him the same pleasures as he would have experienced while dating his girlfriend. Maybe it was at the point that he had trouble telling them apart? Just some speculation here.
PPS - I read some of the lyrics translated, and it feels like my understanding of the video is wrong. Oh well, I'll just appreciate it and stop thinking too much about the meaning. Also, there has been a bit elitism online about how overdone the concept is or how oversexualized the content is. It's pretty funny to see those "elites" complain how lacking others are.
